Chromosome counts of eight species from the flora of Iran

Abstract

Eight plant species belonging to the families Capparaceae, Plumbaginaceae, Primulaceae, Campanulaceae and Papaveraceae, collected from five provinces of the country, were examined to determine their chromosome numbers. The results showed that Zeugandra iranica had 2n=2x=14, Cleome dolichostyla, C. iberica, C. quinquenervia, and C. viscosa each had 2n=2x=20, Papaver macrostomum had 2n=2x=14, Limonium thouini had 2n=2x=12, Androsace maxima had 2n=4x=40 chromosomes. The chromosome numbers of Zeugandra iranica and Cleome quinquenervia are reported here for the first time worldwide. At the same time, those of Cleome dolichostyla, Cleome viscosa, Papaver macrostomum, and Limonium thouini are recorded for the first time in Iran.

هشت گونه گیاهی متعلق به خانواده‌های Papaveraceae, Capparaceae, Campanulaceae، Plumbaginaceae و Primulaceae که از پنج استان کشور جمع‌آوری شده بودند، برای تعیین تعداد کروموزوم‌ مورد بررسی قرار گرفتند. نتایج نشان داد که گونه‌های Zeugandra iranica دارای 2n=2x=14 و  ، Cleome dolichostyla، C. iberica، C. quinquenervia و C. viscosa هر کدام دارای 2n=2x=20، و Papaver macrostomum دارای 2n=2x=14 و Limonium thouini دارای 2n=2x=12 و Androsace maxima دارای 2n=2x=40 کروموزوم بودند. اعداد کروموزومی گونه‌های Zeugandra iranica و Cleome quinquenervia برای اولین بار در جهان گزارش می‌شوند، همچنین اعداد کروموزومی گونه‌های  Cleome dolichostyla، Cleome viscosa، Papaver macrostomum و Limonium thouini برای اولین بار در ایران گزارش شدند.
